About the Transfiguration
The transfiguration story God led me to is the one is Matthew 17. To
understand the story and significance of Jesus Christ transfiguration, it is
important to read the preceding Chapter (Chapter 16).
Matthew 16:
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi he put this question to
his disciples, 'Who do people say the Son of man is?' 14 And they said, 'Some
say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the
prophets.' 15 'But you,' he said, 'who do you say I am?' 16 Then Simon Peter
spoke up and said, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'
17 Jesus replied, 'Simon son of Jonah, you are a blessed man! Because it was
no human agency that revealed this to you but my Father in heaven.
...
27 'For the Son of man is going to come in the glory of his Father with his
angels, and then he will reward each one according to his behavior. 28 In truth
I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see
the Son of man coming with his kingdom.'
Verse 28 foretells the transfiguration event, which is told in the next Chapter
(Matthew 17)
1 Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John
and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 There in their presence he
was transfigured: his face shone like the sun and his clothes became as
dazzling as light. 3 And suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared to them; they
were talking with him.
4 Then Peter spoke to Jesus. 'Lord,' he said, 'it is wonderful for us to be here; if
you want me to, I will make three shelters here, one for you, one for Moses and
one for Elijah.' 5 He was still speaking when suddenly a bright cloud covered
them with shadow, and suddenly from the cloud there came a voice which said,
'This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour. Listen to him.' 6 When they
heard this, the disciples fell on their faces, overcome with fear. 7 But Jesus
came up and touched them, saying, 'Stand up, do not be afraid.' 8 And when
they raised their eyes they saw no one but Jesus.
